Capturing the moment
The best thing about photography is the way it allows you to capture a moment and preserve it forever. If I could carry a huge, professional-looking DSLR around all day with me then I would, as it would ensure I am always ready to take a top-quality photo when something interesting happens. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we’ll be this prepared, or that we can afford to own the most high-quality DSLR available. However, I have decided that using the best, most expensive equipment is not as important as capturing a moment in time that we can remember forever.
I am glad that I came to this realisation. For one thing, it means I don’t have to spend thousands of pounds on equipment and for another, it means that I can stop worrying about this and simply get on with taking photos. A photograph carries an atmosphere with it that can shine out and that you can look at years after the event. When you have some free time, after playing video games or Party Poker and you want to remind yourself of a specific time in your life, then photographs are the way to do this. Look out all your old images and then you can relive the events.
Once you have captured a wonderful moment and preserved it forever in a photograph, you can now share it with others. Photographs mean that even if someone was not at the scene of the capturing, they can still experience a part of the atmosphere surrounding it. While photographs can not substitute for the experience of actually being there, they can come pretty close to recreating a little bit of the feeling. So I’m going to take as many photos as possible, especially when important things are happening, that way I can look back on them in years to come and enjoy reminiscing.
