time off
it’s been at least a week, again, that i’ve not been training at the dojang. i spent almost a week in vancouver, bc (canada) and got sorta lax having good meals and good drinks and really only spending about a day in the middle to do a little practicing. kicks, pumsae, etc. i don’t care for taking this kind of time off. i’ve only done it a few times lately. broken rib, sickness, and this trip. three different instances of a week off of training. every time it throws off my momentum.
to add to this, i’ve filled my typical practice times with other activities lately. i didn’t want to. but it was a necessary move to try and stave off homelessness, which has taken to knocking on my windows as of late. so my favorite class times are blocked for now. this is…not really cool. TKD is one of the few things in my life that gives me real juice. but there’s not a solution at the moment. it’s just one of those things ya gotta do. for a while, at least.
it’s pretty bleak and rainy today in western oregon. winter is coming on, and that means the sun is going away for a while.
i stood on a scale at one of the bus stations and now i have to check my weight. my weight is not something i check usually. i have no scale, and can’t even remember the last time i weighed myself. i put on and take off about 5 – 8 pounds regularly. back and forth. it works for me. mostly, i’m in good shape. sometimes i pig out for a while and put on a few pounds. but i work it off. so while i prefer to keep my midsection slim and taut as possible, i’m forgiving about this fluctuation. but last week i stood on a old-style scale at the amtrak station that told me i was 170 pounds! wow. i’m never much over 150. so that’s gotta be at least 15 pounds over. now i feel i have to check so i know. a funny thing, when you think about it. having to know how many pounds you are.
