and my job but to play within it, then i’d have the time to relate my fate and i’d not wait a single minute! of course, everyday that seems open soon fills with busyness and business and before you know it my time is less and i stack up stress, and my careful narrative becomes a mess.
so even tho i have not finished my MTV camp story, let me bring you the fotografik throughline of my time at mi amigo’s joint (he now having earned the “amigo” badge as well as the “blogmigo” since we have chilled in person, and more than once), zuky ranch. that is, let me pull a kai! (like a blog-hosted coup and with style)
of course kai’s place is not actually a ranch, i just took to thinking of it that way when i saw that his neighbors had horses. which i did not fotograph. and to tell you the truth (what else should i do?) i didn’t really go to kai’s with the intention to shoot. if i did, i’d have images all the way through.
but i’d been up all night the night before. which is funny, as i’d purposely left the bar early to get sleep. but that’s part of the MTV camp story, and we’ll hit that later. anyway, when i met up with him i was all like “ugh…i’m bleary and that trip was just crazy…” and so we had some good eats and a brew and i didnt even think of my camera til much later, when we were at his place.
i am not even going to post all i shot. because while mi blogmigo’s house has lots of cool little spaces and beautiful pieces of art or sculpture to look at, somehow i would feel as if i were turning it inside out to show all of it to the world. but i’ll show some. because i know sylvia would be pissed off if i didn’t. let my presentation be like each frame: leaving something out very consciously and purposefully.
first, the front yard. where you can see that amazingly, kai’s world does resemble his blog! mist and trees and a sense of calm. where nature is not kept at bay or under control or invited in, but rather part of the scene.

1
those of you who imagine somehow that kai’s house is full of asian art and asian food and asian film and culture…are right! which is nice. here is the famous green-red-gold ball thingie. you can see i am steeped with knowledge of chinese culture. by my use of the Han term “thingie.”
many cultures i’ve observed have thingies by the front door. i didn’t ask what this was. only shot it. i assume it was there to ward off fog.

2
this is a wine rack in la casa de kai. when i was showing my pictures to kai, he said “you’re very abstract,” to which i said something so profound it cannot be contained in blog format. well, that’s not actually true. it was probably something more like “jeje, jeje. that’s what SHE said!” no. actually, it wasn’t like that at all. but whatever i said, it was about as important as such a beavis-like exclamation. (or is it butthead? i’m so lax on my american culture.) he said it in a positive sense. anyway. talk to the iron.

3
kai at tha mac!

4
this is my “glam mag shot,” complete with hot flash and edgy cropping. i think its an ad for pale ale. or for cool boxing jackets. or mysterious chinese vatos who create magical softwares in secret wooden rooms. take your pick.

Kai, in motion—

5
dinner (which was deliciouso)

and this is the shot to end on. it’s the one that recalls most of my time at kai’s, to me. just a couple of cats chillin’ in front of good cinema or good boxing, drinking good scotch, talkin good shit, and having a good time. kai’s be a recommended stop, if you’re in the area and the pathway lights up for ya.
