Perhaps you should think about the compromises this way: if you climb up out of the whole mill of the sponsor or the grant awarder or the angel or the patron as quickly as you can and you get a “name”, then you have some power {some in the beginning, more later} to engage in the more iconoclastic levels of art in mass media.
The legalities are very daunting. I made documentaries for many years and that aspect of the business was draining. The very low probability of ever making any money was also not encouraging.
If you find real merit in the money that the corporation is paying you and the rules don’t require selling your soul, and the opportunity remains to communicate with a very wide audience, well, this is a pretty good gig. The newsiness does seem kind of boring, but knowing you, you will find a way to make Congressional vote tallies fascinating. My suggestion would be to try to bend that musical tones rule at least a little. Sneak some Hammond B-3 Leslied Soap Opera intro type effects in there for starters.
But, of course, never mess with the 100% signed release rule. That one is SO annoying.

there’s gratitude all laced through, just with a bit of misgiving about just what the gift the universe gave you.

i’m not looking forward to this mode shift thingy. like, in order for a gear to shift, it’s gotta carve a path to move in. and that’s painful. and i (i don’t know about the rest of you freaks, but i) don’t like pain.

well. i think when you get older you still can shift into youthful idealist mode…you just also have other modes to shift into that you didnt before.

No matter what the final products are or how restrictive the terms can be, you’re gonna put your life into it. And that’s kinda what matters, right? Your life? Time you can’t get back so if you’re going to do something kickassed, do it BIG, and if you fuck up, fuck up with style?

I’m still in youthful idealist mode, you know, but that’s the vibe I get from all the older folks who still dream like me. Or whatever. Learning processes, drunk with immaturity, cannot hold attention span for long, ooh shiny object and Jet Li…
