shape

in sculpting lie many truths of life
in the manipulation and celebration of shape
in the pressures between palms
in the care that fingers only show to weakened clay
in the smoothing and the wetness and the tearing away
in the moistening and the drying and the cracking and the flaking
in the dust that ebbs out into sunlight falling on its face
in the invisible future forms that emerge from the milky density of that wall of warm matter encircled
spun up
held tight
prodded and pulled and kneaded and splayed
and wedding vision to motion
dirt to spirit to the beautiful tho temporary
truth of a molded shape
